My Story

I have always been a person who gravitates towards stories and lessons as an escape; the world feels more interesting when looking from the outside-in. As a sensitive kid, it was easier for me to learn through observation, creating marvelous stories about fairies and princesses, as well as sea monsters and reptiles, as a way to understand the world around me. Throughout my childhood, I was extremely eager to participate in everything that piqued my interest. I took dance classes, sang in the church choir, crafted "very serious" iMovies on my iPad, and acted in community theatre, musicals, and ballets. Simultaneously, I entered science fairs, attended STEM camps, and went through an intense murder mystery phase (which is still on going). Whatever I could take in, I wanted. Even now, the world feels like a puzzle I need to solve, and for me, theatre is how I do it.

However, it wasn't until my experience with Interlochen Arts Camp that I realized theatre was something I could make a living with. At Interlochen, people took theatre seriously, and they encouraged me to combine my artistic needs with my educational interests. After a summer and four years at Interlochen, I have realized who I am as an artist. My approach is driven by my ambitious curiosity and a view of our magical world as a complex puzzle of light and darkness. When we stop asking questions and caring about one another, we lose the magic in our world, and it becomes too dark to see. Through my deliberate and imaginative work, I aim to light the way for my audience to regain their childlike wonder and empathy.

I believe that to love theatre is to love the world and its creatures. If I am to portray life on stage, I have to understand it. This is why I will continue to study theatre and dance, in addition to pursuing my other educational interests of psychology and environmental science. I plan to continue my education to receive my PhD, to aid my work as a director, choreographer, and eventual teacher. The greatest problem in our society currently is a lack of global connection both to the planet and its creatures. It is my duty to make art that is not only entertaining, but connects us as a society.
